How it works

How to crop a video online?

  1. Open your video

    Drag a file onto the box or pick one from your device. It is read straight off your disk, so there is no upload bar and no file-size ceiling.

  2. Drag out the crop

    The box starts on the whole frame. Pull a corner inwards to shrink it and drag from the middle to move it — the shaded area is what gets thrown away.

  3. Lock a shape, if you need one

    Pick 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9 and the box keeps that ratio while you drag. Leave it on Free for any rectangle, or type exact pixel values.

  4. Crop and download

    The file saves as "yourvideo-cropped.mp4". It encodes on your graphics hardware, so it is far quicker than the clip is long — and you can switch tabs while it works.

Is this video cropper free to use?

Yes. There is no watermark on the export, no account to create and no limit on how many videos you crop.

Does my video get uploaded anywhere?

No. The crop and the re-encode both happen in your own browser. No copy of the footage is sent to a server at any point.

What video formats can I open, and what do I get back?

MP4, MOV, WebM, M4V, AVI and MKV open, as long as your browser can decode what is inside — MP4 (H.264) is the safest bet, since some MOV and MKV files use codecs browsers do not ship. Whatever goes in, the crop always saves as MP4: H.264 video, with AAC audio if you keep the sound.

Is there a file size limit?

No. The file is read straight off your disk rather than uploaded, so there is no server quota involved — a long or high-resolution file is limited only by your own device.

Can I set an exact crop instead of dragging it?

Yes. The Left, Top, Width and Height fields next to the video take pixel values directly, and they stay in sync with the drag handles either way.

Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome and Edge 94+, Safari 16.4+ and Firefox 130+ — the browsers with WebCodecs, which is what does the encoding. On anything older the page says so before you pick a file.
