How to make a fake Instagram story?
Pick the backdrop
Start from a gradient like Instagram’s text mode, or drop in any photo — it is filled to 9:16 on your own device, never uploaded.
Make it yours
Type the username, set the time stamp, add a profile photo and flip the verified badge on if the mockup calls for it.
Shape the story
Choose how many progress bars sit along the top and which one is playing, write the text, drag it into place, and show or hide the reply bar.
Download it
The story comes out as a 1080×1920 PNG or JPG — Instagram’s own story size — with no watermark and nothing stamped in a corner.
Drawn, not captured
A picture of a story, not a screenshot
Nothing here touches Instagram. The whole frame — the segmented progress bars, the avatar, the username and its badge, the time stamp, the ⋯ menu, the reply box with its heart and share icons — is drawn from shapes and type at Instagram’s own story size. That is what makes every part of it editable: a screenshot is stuck with whatever was on screen, but a drawing can say any name, any time, and be three stories into a set of nine.
