How to make a fake Instagram chat?

  1. Set up the other person

    Type their name, put a username or "Active now" under it, upload a profile photo or let the initials disc stand in, and switch on the verified badge and the online dot if the joke needs them.

  2. Write the conversation

    Add messages one by one and flip each between Them and You. Reorder them, drop in a time stamp between groups, and pin an emoji reaction to any bubble.

  3. Dress the phone

    Light or dark mode, plain blue or gradient bubbles, the clock in the status bar, the battery level, and whether "Seen" sits under your last message.

  4. Download the screenshot

Does anything get uploaded — the messages, the profile photo?

No. The chat is typed into the page and the screenshot is drawn by your own browser's canvas. A profile photo you pick is read from your device and never sent anywhere; the finished PNG is generated and downloaded locally.

What size and format does the download come out in?

A PNG at 1179×2556 — the exact pixel size a real iPhone @3x screenshot saves at, not a rounder, more obviously fake resolution.

Is it OK to make a fake Instagram chat?

It's a prop, meant for jokes, fiction, skits and design mockups — not for passing off as a real conversation. Using one to defame, scam, harass or fabricate evidence harms real people and can be illegal. Say it's fake whenever someone could otherwise mistake it for real.
