YouTube Playlist Length Calculator

Paste a playlist link and see how long it really is — the total in hours and minutes, at any playback speed, for the whole list or just the videos you have left.

The link is sent to our server, which reads the playlist from YouTube — a video URL with list= in it works too. Nothing is stored.

How it works

How to calculate a YouTube playlist’s length?

  1. Paste the playlist link

From the address bar or the Share button — youtube.com/playlist?list=… A video link that carries list= works too, as does the bare playlist ID.

  2. Pass the quick check

One tap proves you’re human. Usually it clears itself.

  3. Read the total

Every video’s length is fetched from YouTube and added up: the total in hours and minutes, the average video, and the total at 1.5× and 2×.

  4. Narrow it down

Pick a playback speed, or set “only videos 12 to 40” to see how long the part you have left will take. Copy the summary in one press.

Why it exists

YouTube counts videos. You want hours.

Open any playlist and YouTube tells you it has 47 videos, and nothing about whether that is two hours or forty. The number that decides whether you start a course tonight or block out a month is the one it leaves out. This page fetches every video’s length from YouTube and adds them up, so the answer is exact rather than “about ten minutes each, so…”.

The two things people do next are built in. Watching at 1.5× or 2× — pick the speed and the total moves with it. Already twenty videos in — set the range to the videos that remain and the total becomes the time you actually have left.

Spec sheet

What you get back

The whole playlist, to the second

Every video is counted individually, not estimated from an average, so the total is what YouTube itself would show if it added them up.

At any playback speed

0.5× to 2× on one press, or type 1.6× if that is what you actually watch at. The total, the average and every row update at once.

Only the videos you mean

From video 12 to video 40, or from 30 to the end — the range fields cut the total down to the part of the playlist you have not watched yet.

Every video listed with a running total

Position, title, length and the running clock — handy for finding where the halfway point falls or which lecture ends the first ten hours.

Playlists up to 5,000 videos

A ten-video series or a channel’s whole uploads playlist. Deleted and private videos are reported as hidden rather than silently dropped.

Free, no signup, no daily cap

No account, no email, no counter that stops you after three playlists. Come back and check the next course straight away.

Where it pays off

When to use it?

Size a course before you start it

A 60-lecture programming playlist is either a weekend or a semester. Knowing which decides whether you begin at all.

Plan a study schedule

31 hours at 1.5× is 21 hours — an hour a day for three weeks. The speed presets do that arithmetic for you.

Check if a series fits the evening

A let’s-play, a lecture series, a documentary run: see whether the rest of it fits the time you have before you press play.

Describe your own playlist

Publishing a course or a compilation? “12 videos, 4 h 20 min total” in the description tells people what they are committing to.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the total length of a YouTube playlist?

YouTube shows the number of videos on a playlist but not the total time. Paste the playlist link above and press the button — every video’s length is fetched and added up, and the total comes back in hours, minutes and seconds.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Free, no signup, no limit on how many playlists you check. Nothing is stored — the playlist is read from YouTube and the numbers are worked out in your browser.

What links work?

A playlist URL (youtube.com/playlist?list=…), a video URL that carries list= because you opened it from a playlist, a youtu.be share link with list=, or the bare playlist ID. Channel uploads playlists (the ones starting UU) work as well.

Does it work on private or unlisted playlists?

Unlisted yes — anyone with the link can read those. Private no; the playlist has to be visible without signing in, and there is no sign-in here. A YouTube Mix (list=RD…) is not a real playlist and cannot be read either.

How does the playback speed calculation work?

The total is divided by the speed: 10 hours at 2× is 5 hours, at 1.5× is 6 hours 40 minutes. Pick a preset or type your own — 1.6×, 2.5×, whatever your player allows.

Can I get the length of only part of the playlist?

Yes — set the “only videos” fields to a from-and-to position, for example 15 to 42, and the total, the average and the list update to just those videos. That is the length of what you have left when you are on video 14.

What does “hidden” mean, and why is a video shown with no length?

Hidden videos are ones YouTube has removed from the list — deleted or made private by their owner. They are counted so you know they exist but they have no length to add. A video that is a live stream, a premiere or scheduled for later shows no length either and is skipped.

How large a playlist can it handle?

Up to 5,000 videos, which is YouTube’s own ceiling for a playlist. A few hundred videos come back in a couple of seconds; the very largest take a little longer.
