The images come straight from YouTube. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How it works

How to download a YouTube thumbnail?

  1. Paste the video link

youtube.com/watch, youtu.be, a Short or an embed link — any link with the video in it.

  2. We find every size

Each thumbnail size YouTube has for the video is checked; the ones that exist are listed, the best one shown large.

  3. Save the one you want

One press per size — max resolution 1280×720 down to the 120×90 default, and the three frame stills when the video has them.

Where it pays off

What people save thumbnails for

Reference for your own thumbnails

Save the ones that stop your scroll and study them full-size: the text, the face, the framing.

Blog posts and slides

Illustrate a write-up or a talk with the video’s own art in HD instead of a blurry screenshot.

Backing up your channel

Keep clean copies of the thumbnails on your uploads without hunting through old project files.

The frame stills

The start, middle and end frames YouTube captured — a quick way to grab a still without playing the video.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which sizes can I download?

Everything YouTube publishes for the video: max resolution (1280×720), standard (640×480), high quality (480×360), medium quality (320×180) and the 120×90 default. Only the sizes that actually exist are offered — older or low-resolution uploads often have no 1280×720 version, and the tool says so by leaving it out rather than handing you a grey placeholder.

What are the “video frames”?

YouTube captures three stills from every upload — near the start, the middle and the end — and uses them as the automatic thumbnail choices in the uploader’s studio. They are public images at 1280×720, so you can save them here too. Very new uploads sometimes do not have them yet.

Does it work with Shorts and youtu.be links?

Yes — watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, embed and live links all work. You can also paste just the eleven-character video ID.

Why is the max-resolution size missing for some videos?

YouTube only makes a 1280×720 thumbnail when the uploaded video or the custom thumbnail is large enough. For older and lower-resolution uploads the biggest you can get is 640×480 or 480×360, which is what the tool offers.

What format is the file?

JPEG, exactly as YouTube serves it — no re-encoding, no watermark, no resizing. The filename carries the video ID and the size so a folder of them stays sortable.

Do you store the video link or the image?

No. The sizes are checked by loading the images in your browser straight from YouTube. The download passes through a small proxy only because YouTube’s image host does not allow browsers to save its files directly; nothing is kept.

Can I use someone else’s thumbnail?

The image belongs to whoever made it. Saving one for reference, study or a review is normal use; putting it on your own video or product needs their permission.
