Telegram Profile Picture Resizer

Turn any photo into a full Telegram DP — the whole picture, no crop — or frame it inside the circle yourself, and download it at the 640×640 Telegram keeps.

How it works

How to resize a photo for a Telegram DP?

  1. Open a photo

Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP — tall, wide or square, it stays on your device. It opens as a full DP: the whole photo inside the square, nothing cut off.

  2. Choose what fills the gaps

A blur of the photo, white, or the dark blue of Telegram’s night theme — or switch to Fill the frame and drag, zoom and turn the photo to crop it inside the circle yourself. Want just you on a colour? remove the background first, then drop the cut-out in here.

  3. Check it where it will be seen

The mock-up shows the same DP with your profile pulled open, in a chat header, in the chat list and beside a group message — on the night theme or the day one.

  4. Download and set it

Save the 640×640 file, then in Telegram open Settings → Set Profile Photo (Change Profile Photo on iPhone) and pick it. It is already square, so the crop box covers all of it — just tap the tick.

Setting it

How to change your profile picture on Telegram

Every Telegram app puts a square crop box over whatever you pick. With a square file from here it already covers the whole picture, so keep it where it is and confirm:

AndroidOpen the ☰ menu → Settings → Set Profile Photo, choose the downloaded file from your gallery or Downloads, and tap the tick. The crop box already covers the whole square.
iPhoneSave the file to Photos first (open it from Safari’s downloads, then Share → Save Image). In Telegram, open the Settings tab → Change Profile Photo (Set Photo or Video if you have none yet), pick it and tap Done.
Telegram DesktopOpen the ☰ menu → Settings → Edit profile (My Account on some versions), click the camera on your photo → Choose from file, and confirm with Done.
Telegram WebOpen the ☰ menu → Settings → the pencil to edit your profile, click your photo, pick the file and confirm.

The new photo goes in front of the ones you set before, which stay in your profile for people to swipe through until you delete them. A group or channel photo is set the same way, from its info → Edit, by an admin.

Sizes

Telegram profile picture size

The Telegram profile picture size to upload is 640×640 pixels: a square, a 1:1 ratio. Telegram keeps a 640 px square and a 160 px copy of it, cuts a circle out of them for every list and chat, and shows the whole square only when someone pulls your profile open or taps the photo. The Android app scales a bigger pick down to 800 px before sending it; Telegram Desktop scales a smaller one up to 640. Upload anything that is not square and the app makes you crop it — which is the whole reason a “full DP” has to be made before it reaches Telegram, not inside it.

UploadWhen to use it
640×640The size Telegram keeps. Upload exactly this and nothing is resized on the way in, so nothing is softened twice.
800×800The most Telegram for Android sends. A little room for a second crop in the app before it comes back down to 640.
1280×1280For zooming in again inside Telegram’s own crop box and still landing above 640. No sharper once it is set.
512×512A lighter file for a slow connection. Telegram scales it up to 640, which is barely visible in a circle.

Where it ends up, in the app’s own dp — two to three times that in real pixels on a modern phone: the full width of the screen when your profile is pulled down, then a circle in the chat list at 56, the top of a chat at 42 and beside a message in a group at 42. The corners of the square are only ever seen with the profile open, so keep anything that matters inside the circle.

Need the same face for other apps too? the profile picture maker exports every platform’s size in one ZIP, and the WhatsApp DP maker does this for WhatsApp’s 640×640.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the Telegram profile picture size?

Upload a square of 640×640 pixels. Telegram keeps a profile photo as a 640×640 square plus a 160×160 copy for lists, shows it as a circle in chats and lists, and shows the full square only when your profile is pulled open or the photo is tapped. Bigger files are scaled down to 640; smaller ones are scaled up and look soft.

What is the Telegram DP ratio?

1:1 — a square. Every Telegram app makes you crop anything else to a square, which is why a tall or wide photo loses its top and bottom or its sides. Fit it into a 1:1 square here first and there is nothing left to cut.

How do I set a full DP on Telegram without cropping?

Drop the photo here — it opens fitted whole inside the square, with a blur of itself filling the gaps. Download it and set it as your profile photo. Because the file is already square, Telegram’s crop box covers all of it, and the whole picture shows when anyone opens your profile.

How do I change my profile picture on Telegram?

On Android, open the ☰ menu → Settings → Set Profile Photo. On iPhone, the Settings tab → Change Profile Photo, or Set Photo or Video for a first one. On Telegram Desktop, ☰ → Settings → Edit profile, then the camera on your photo. Pick the file, keep the crop as it is, and confirm. The new photo goes to the front; the old ones stay in your profile until you delete them.

How do I delete my Telegram profile picture?

Open Settings and tap your photo to open it full screen, then use the ⋮ menu on Android (or the menu on iPhone and desktop) and choose Delete. If you had set more than one photo, the one before it becomes your profile picture again, so delete each one you want gone.

Why is my Telegram DP blurry?

Usually because the upload was small, or because the photo was cropped down to a small corner of a big picture. Telegram keeps 640×640, and scales anything smaller up to that. Export 640×640 (or 800 if you want to crop again in the app) and make sure your face fills a good part of the circle.

Can I have more than one Telegram profile picture, or a video?

Yes to both. Every photo you set is kept, and people swipe through them when they open your profile; on your own photos you can pick one and choose Set as main. Telegram also takes a short square profile video (800×800 is the recommended size) — this tool makes still photos, but the same no-crop square works as a frame to start one from.

What is the Telegram deleted account DP?

When an account is deleted, Telegram replaces its name with “Deleted Account” and its photo with a grey circle and a small ghost. It is drawn by the app, not a photo anyone uploaded, so it cannot be set as your own DP — the closest is a plain dark or initials picture made here.

Does it work for a Telegram group or channel photo?

Yes. A group or channel photo is the same 640×640 square shown as a circle. An admin sets it from the group or channel’s info → Edit → Set New Photo.

Is this free, and is my photo uploaded?

Free, no watermark, no sign-in — and nothing is uploaded. The picture is drawn in your browser and never leaves your device.
